The first week of winter is upon us, and what a winter the Sunshine Coast puts on every year. The water may be a little fresh, but it is the perfect time of the year to get outdoors during the day and really absorb the wonder of trails, beautiful waterfalls, and the mountains that we are surrounded by.
I am closing in on a huge athletic bucket list item of mine; 100 mile running race. Yes!! 100 miles, which is equivalent to 162km! It is the distance between the Sunshine Coast to Coomera (that little town just outside of the Gold Coast.) The Brisbane Trail Ultra 100 miler is a little over 5 weeks away, and I spent the last weekend on the course enduring 105km of the 162km course.
For those who know me well, you will know that part of my motivation and my purpose is to inspire others to recognise that ‘We, as humans, are designed to be extraordinary’.
I will be honest, the course is brutal and has 8000 meters of climbing over that distance, so it is challenging me on many levels:
Mentally: Continuously showing up with the mindset that is going to allow me to accomplish the days training to put me in the best position to finish this race. Nutritionally: Ensuring I am adequately nourished to support my body, its performance and recovery.
Physically: Ensuring my body is in the best condition it can be to perform and achieve what I am asking of it.
I want to make it very clear, that you do not need to be a professional athlete, or attempting crazy ultra endurance events to benefit from chiropractic care. In fact, chiropractic care can help enhance the enjoyment and effectiveness of your physical activity, regardless of what level of activity you participate in.
My desire is to see each of every person in The Health Studio Community be the best expression of their extraordinary selves.
How Chiropractic Care Helps me.
I receive chiropractic care weekly. This often increases during training and race campaigns.
1. Optimises Performance
Chiropractic care improves the function of the spine. Proper spinal function allows the brain to take in and respond appropriately to sensory output. This boosts the body’s overall performance.
2. Injury Prevention
My philosophy with injuries is that the best way to deal with them is to prevent them! Chiropractic, by helping maintain proper motion, balance and coordination of the musculoskeletal system, can help to prevent injuries related to poor function.
3. Pain Reduction
Research has shown that chiropractic care can have a significant impact on pain, even in healthy young adults. Reducing pain associated with injuries allows athletes to return to more normal movement patterns. This leads to faster and more complete recovery, with less chance of the relapses associated with poor movement patterns.
4. Healing & Recovery
I notice that my recovery for the intensity and frequency of my training sessions is very efficient. Misalignments of the spine can hinder the healing process. Much of the pain felt after an injury comes from the body trying to protect itself through muscle guarding and inflammation. These intelligent responses are part of the body’s protective mechanisms. They are designed, in the short-term, to prevent re-injury. Sometimes these mechanisms persist, and when they do, they prevent your return to normal activity. Chiropractic care, by helping to restore normal function, can help speed up the recovery process.
A consistant Chiropractic approach is a great addition to help in supporting you to get well and get active again.
With a focus on restoring proper function through care of the spine and nervous system, in addition to postural, exercise and dietary advice, chiropractic care can help many people get back to being their best.
When you are functioning at your very best, you are more able to enjoy whatever level of activity you are into – whether that’s advanced ultra running, or going for a walk with your dog.
Let me help you get back to being your best, so you can enjoy the best of the great outdoors during the winter that the Sunshine Coast offers.
